Types of garbage

Recyclable garbage mainly includes five categories: waste paper, plastic, glass, metal, and cloth.

Waste paper: mainly includes newspapers, periodicals, books, various packaging papers, etc. However, it should be noted that paper towels and garbage sorting toilet paper cannot be recycled due to their water solubility.

plastics: all kinds of plastic bags, plastic foam, compostable cutlery plastic packaging, disposable plastic lunch boxes and tableware, hard plastics, plastic toothbrushes, plastic cups, mineral water bottles, etc.

Glass: mainly includes various glass bottles, broken glass pieces, mirrors, thermos bottles, etc. (Mirror is other garbage/dry garbage)

Metal items: mainly including cans, cans, etc.

Fabric medical waste mainly includes discarded clothes, tablecloths, face towels, school bags, shoes, etc.

Through the comprehensive treatment and recycling of recyclable garbage, pollution can be reduced and resources can be saved. For example, every ton of waste paper recycled can produce 850 kilograms of paper, saving 300 kilograms of wood, and reducing pollution by 74% compared to equivalent production; every ton of plastic beverage bottles recycled can be obtained; every ton of scrap steel recycled can make good steel, The use of ore smelting saves 47% of costs, reduces air pollution by 75%, and reduces water pollution and solid waste by 97%.

Other garbage (referred to as dry garbage in Shanghai) includes bricks, ceramics, muck, toilet waste paper, paper towels and other wastes that are difficult to recycle, as well as fruit shells, dust, and food bags (boxes) other than the above-mentioned types of garbage. Adopting sanitary landfill for other garbage can effectively reduce the pollution of groundwater, surface water, soil and air.

Big stick bones are included in other rubbish because they are difficult to corrode. However, corn kernels, nut kernels, fruit kernels, chicken bones, etc. are kitchen waste.

Toilet paper: Toilet paper, toilet paper will dissolve in water, not considered as recyclable "paper", similar to pottery, cigarette case, etc.

Misunderstanding 3: The plastic bags commonly used for bagging food waste into the bucket, even if it is degradable, are far more difficult to corrode than food waste. In addition, the plastic bag itself is recyclable. The correct approach is to dump the food waste into the trash can and the plastic bags into the "recyclable trash" bin.

peanut shells are regarded as other garbage, and the logo of "fruit shell melon skin" is peanut shell, which is indeed food waste. Waste cooking oil leftover at home is also classified as "kitchen garbage".

Dust, in the garbage classification, dust belongs to other garbage, but the remaining branches and leaves belong to the kitchen garbage, including the flowers that bloomed at home. Including leftovers, bones, vegetable roots and leaves, peels, waste cooking oil and other food wastes. This kind of waste is treated and composted on-site by biotechnology, and 0.3 tons of organic fertilizer can be produced per ton.

Hazardous waste

Hazardous waste refers to waste that contains heavy metals and toxic substances that are harmful to the human body, or that causes actual or potential harm to the environment. Live batteries, fluorescent tubes, light bulbs, water thermometers, paint buckets, some household appliances, expired medicines and their containers, expired engravings, etc. These household wastes can generally be recycled separately or landfilled.
